Introduction
Regular cleaning of your Walker Airsep® filter is important. Failure to clean
the Airsep® filter and the Vacuum Regular/Limiter air filter will affect the
operation of the Airsep® unit and may cause damage to the engine.
The Walker Airsep® filter’s size and appearance varies from engine to engine. Some are tapered
cylinders and others are straight. Generally speaking, the filter is fairly large and is easily visible.
Its fine-wire-mesh outer side is ribbed. When clean and oiled, the filter element is purplish in color.
The Vacuum Regular/Limited filter is smaller (2 3/4” x 3”) and should be cleaned at the same time
as the Airsep® filter.

Note: A filter that is damaged or clogged with soot due to an exhaust leak may not be able to be
cleaned to maximum flow condition. Replacement of the element may be necessary.
Maintenance schedule
The Walker Airsep® Air Filter element should be cleaned every 250 hours of
operation or once a year, whichever comes first. The air filter element should be
replaced after three cleanings. The Vacuum Regulator/Limiter filter must also be
cleaned every 250 hours. In addition to a regular maintenance schedule, the air
filter element and the Vacuum Regulator/Limiter filter must be cleaned any time
the Restriction Indicator on the Airsep® unit turns red.

Cleaning Procedure
1 Pre-cleaning the Airsep® filter
Remove the spring clips. The filter should fall away from the Airsep® unit. If it does not, use a
plastic putty knife or a credit card to free it by sliding the corner of the plastic knife or card between
the filter and the metal. Work the plastic all around the perimeter of the filter. Then twist the filter
without using too much force. If it doesn’t fall free, run the plastic edge around again, going a little
deeper into the groove. (Note: it is not essential to remove the end cap to clean the filter.)
Once the filter is free, tap the filter element to dislodge any large embedded particles of dirt/dust.
Then gently brush the filter element with a soft bristle brush. (Note: If complete cleaning at this
time is impractical, you may re-oil and reinstall the air filter element.)
2 Cleaning the filter
Spray the Walker Air Filter Cleaner on the filter element and let stand for ten minutes. Large filters
can be rolled or soaked in a shallow pan of solution for ten minutes (dilute the solution with a small
amount of water).
Do NOT use the following methods or liquids for cleaning the filter element:
NO gasoline
NO steam
NO caustic cleaning solutions
NO high-pressure water or air
NO parts-cleaning solvents
3 Rinsing the filter
Rinse off the filter element with low water pressure. Tap water is OK. Always flush from the clean
side to the dirty side. This will remove the particles and dirt and not drive them into the filter.
4 Drying the filter
After rinsing, shake off all the excess water and let the filter element dry naturally. Leaving it out-
side in the sun will speed the process. Do NOT do any of the following:
Do NOT use compressed air
Do NOT use open flame
Do NOT use heat dryers
5 Re-oiling the filter
After cleaning, always re-oil the filter element with Walker Air Filter Oil before using. The effective-
ness of the air filter is greatly reduced if it is used without oiling. Sparingly squeeze small amounts
of the oil out of the bottle across the top of each pleat. Let the oil wick into the filter element for
twenty minutes. Then re-oil any white spots that are still showing. Do NOT use any of the following
lubricants to re-oil the filter element:
NEVER use automatic transmission fluid
NEVER use motor oil
NEVER use diesel fuel
NEVER use WD-40®
or any other lightweight oil
Cleaning the Vacuum Regulator/Limiter filter
Remove the Vacuum Regulator/Limiter filter by loosening the clamp and sliding the filter unit off the
unit. Clean the filter element and its base by following Steps 1-5 above.
Resetting the Restriction Indicator
After cleaning both filters, depress the button on top of the Restriction Indicator. Check it periodi-
cally. If the Indicator shows red, the filters need cleaning.
